Marble Cave Tour
The Marble Cave Tour will start with a transfer from Lucca to Colonnata, a characteristic little village set in the Apuane Alps; in the province of Carrara.
It is famous for the nearby Marble Quarries, where Michelangelo used to go to fetch his marble; and also for the Lardo di Colonnata, a traditional Tuscan delicacy, which was eaten by the workers in the quarries to gain strength for their hard work.
You will be able to visit the ancient quarries and see how they still make the Lardo in the traditional way, which dates back to the year 1000, by using the marble to season it. We will have lunch at a traditional restaurant where you will be able to taste the local specialties. We will then return to Lucca around 3.00 p.m.
